Staying Motivated Amidst Crazy Life Happenings

The past year has been a literal whirlwind. With so much happening on a global scale, it can be hard to hunker down and get motivated about your day-to-day tasks. But I’m going to let you in on a little secret… Everyone is in the same boat. As we wrap up Q1 of 2021, how can we help ourselves, and each other, fight each day head-on? Let me share a few things that have helped me amp up my motivation and helped put things into perspective.

Get Up and Move

Move. Yup, just get up and move. Whether you’re taking a stroll to the kitchen to get a snack or taking your pup for a jaunt around the block, getting up and walking away can help you clear your mind and restore your focus and motivation. Still feeling anxious and distracted? Get your heart pumping. Going for a run or doing some yoga can really help empty your mind from all the crazy that’s going on around, keeping you grounded and motivated.

Talk It Out

Like I said, this crazy world is affecting everyone right now. Try talking candidly about your lack of motivation with a friend, coworker, or therapist. Chances are that person is experiencing the same feelings and may have some personal advice on how they are staying motivated or at least be able to empathize with what you are experiencing. Often, we don’t realize the extent of our feelings until we start to communicate them and even that verbal release can help brush off some stress and so we can refresh.

Make Lists

Making to-do lists helps put what is on your plate into perspective. Often I’ll get overwhelmed by my workload, but then, when I write it down, it’s just five tasks — so much more manageable! I would also recommend adding simple, everyday tasks to your lists. Things like making your bed or eating lunch. It may seem silly, but it is such a relief to cross tasks off the list, so why not do it more often?

After everything is said and done, it’s important to be kind to yourself. We are living through historical event after historical event and it’s hard to stay motivated through it all. But taking time for yourself, checking in with others, and celebrating the little things can really help make each day brighter!
